Perth Zoo is excellent, easily on par with Melbourne and Sydney. It's large, well laid out and gloriously quiet on weekdays.
Highlights were the fantastic and huge nocturnal exhibit that seemed to go on forever, monkeys-monkeys-monkeys, the rainforest retreat, an Australian animal section that didn't suck, and best of all, the adult salt-water crocodile. The long walk through the tall grass to the giraffes is lovely, especially as they pop their heads over the tree-tops ahead of you.
The new orang-utan section is much like Sydney's and Melbourne's, with tall wooden tree platforms. Perth's was massive with multiple sections and ten or more trees, but lacked the garden and foliage that makes Melbourne's a little more fun to look at.
Perth Zoo has a lot of glass. Clean glass. Viewing pleasure and monkey irritation is magnified ten-fold. My only complaint was that quite a few of the bird and primate cages were closed, the main cafe and carousel were closed for renovation and the "Homestead Barn" was hella-lame, although I liked its sentiment.
The mosquitoes got on my nerves after a while, especially after warnings on the news to cover up as mosquito-borne disease was on the rise. Hooray for paranoia.
Meerkats are apparently carnivorous, the one on the rock in the photo below is eating a mouse.
We didn't see the Sun Bear, despite it apparently being on of the main draw-cards. He was asleep.
Despite not having a lens as big as your arm (like the nice patient man we saw in the wetlands) I think I took some nice photos. Enjoy!
Katie actually suggested the whole site might be a joke to bait me into posting... I'm offended! Although such a massive fan serves to remind me that I'm into Tic Tac collecting for the flavours, not completeness.
I'm eating a pack of Bold! Fruit to celebrate finding the other Tic Tac fan in the world...
The Pink Grapefruit Tic Tacs are PINK!
Another pack to get my hands on, along with the Bold! Apple Sour.
And here is me without a credit card.
Tic Tac "Chill" is also on the way in "Paradise Mint" and "Exotic Cherry" (via All Candy Expo 2008).
