Another newspaper/"expert" created "best" list, but mildly more interesting as it has restricted itself to rock and to Australian (and New Zealand when we can get away with pretending they're Australian) releases.

Best of the best [The Age]:

FROM Johnny O’Keefe to AC/DC, the Divinyls, Midnight Oil, Jet and the Drones, Australian music has come a long way since “the Wild One” first strutted his stuff 50 years ago.

While some claim that recent technology has rendered the album obsolete, we at EG believe the best bands are still judged by great albums.

The top 10:

  • 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Midnight Oil (1981)
  • Radios Appear Radio Birdman (1977)
  • Living in the 70s Skyhooks (1974)
  • Hi Fi Way You Am I (1995)

I have both the Oils albums and I agree that "10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1" should be in the top 10, but maybe not the best. But something has to be "best" on these lists doesn't it?

More on this later. I've just discovered I can go home. And I don't have to work Sunday. Hooray for me.

EastLink opens tomorrow [The Age]. Officially it opened today but I drove past our local entry around 12 and it was very very shut.

The first time we use the tollway will likely be on a trip to Tyabb. Avoiding the drive through Springvale should cut tens of minutes off the trip. I'm actually kind of looking forward to it.

The Eastern Freeway is my favourite freeway in Melbourne. When I use it (after 6pm weekdays and on weekends) it's usually unclogged and convenient. I like it's bus lanes and transit lanes. I only wish it had a train up the middle, or maybe a dedicated bus lane with stations?

Unfortunately I predict the extra traffic from EastLink will kill the fun. I can't see any other outcome but bedlam at the city end of the freeway as thousands of extra cars hit the intersection.

We'll see...

I'm in the office this Saturday night as part of our production support team. I'll probably be here until 11pm. I might be here on Sunday too.

I had intended to bring the list of beers I tried while at SpecTAPular but I forgot my bag.

So I have nothing to do.

Odds on dinner will be Pizza. Or Indian.
