Expensive weekend  #

We had one of those weekends where your credit card gets rejected because it's full. Or empty. Depending on your life outlook.

We bought plane tickets for a holiday, had a plumber over to fix our shower and declare our heater a danger to our lives and our shower installation "very handyman", bought a new mattress and had a fairly major car service (battery, breaks, new seatbelt, boot leak sealing). The battery was extra excitement as I tried to drive out of the mechanics only to find the car wouldn't start. Click click click. Dead battery.

The mattress was paid for by our various generous wedding gift givers. We thank you with our comfortable backs and good night sleeps. Or we will, when it arrives, and we get used to it.

We also looked into a new heater. Our existing heater is a forty? year old gas/electric thingy in the old fireplace. It is slowly melting away its paint/plastic covering and will eventually melt its electrics and kill us all.

The new heater slots in the same spot. It's one of those fake fire things and looks lovely, uses much less gas and is more efficient than our existing one. Hopefully it will fit, although the place we bought it from says if they turn up to install it and it won't fit we don't pay a cent. Bargain.

They install on Saturdays too. Unheard of!

We thought about ducted heating (which would have cost a similar amount) but decided our house design doesn't really warrant it. The only real reason would be to have a duct under the towels in the bathroom to dry them off, or for better heating of our bedroom. Not really worth a bunch of holes in the floor and a ton of pipes under the house filling with rats and dust.

That and we would have had to brick up the fireplace, and we like having a fireplace.

I'm sure, like all home owners, we will eventually get our house just right, and then move.
