Tivo out today  #

Tivo is officially out today, TVTonight is collecting comments.

So far I've discovered that as expected (based on the $700 price) it has 2xHD tuners and a 160Gb hard drive. You MUST have it connected to broadband, either via in build ethernet plug, or a wireless "adapter" that I assume costs more. I assume the guide is internet based and the broadcast digital TV electronic guide information is ignored.

Deal breaker for me appeared in one of the TVTonight comments. I had assumed that Tivo was clever enough, given it has it's own TV channel controlled TV guide, to be able to know when a show has changed schedule or gone over time and keep recording (or not) based on that information. From this comment, perhaps not:

[Question]: Mike, or anyone else with one, i'd be interested to know how it counters the channels going overtime, if at all?

[Answer]: re: going over time. There is an option for extending finish times and I think you can set how many minutes this should be. There was also an option for live shows that over run as well but that is as far as I got.

Really, if that is the only option there is, why not just get a PVR and set up the times yourself?

I'm still interested in seeing how the subscription idea works when a show moves timeslot, and also in the subscription to a personality works (I want to record everything with Shaun Micallef please).

I'd also love to see a video of how the fast forward works.
