Sure, I have some boring old Aussie peppermint ones to keep me going, but whatever shall I do?
'Tis OK! I have a massive pile of Bold! Apple on the way soon. I really do mean massive. I couldn't buy just one packet. I had to get ... a lot.
I hope I like them.
I suspect you might get a packet.
The Tivo is:
There are plans for external hard-drive add ons for more space and for a "software upgrade" (at a cost) to allow you to download recorded programs to your iPod etc.
For $400 you can buy a no-name PVR with 320Gb hard drive and two HD tuners. A branded one would cost around $600. Neither near $700. Not to mention the approximate $200 cost it will require for me to set up the wireless network required to use Tivo without cables everywhere.
For the extra cash you're buying the superior menu and the ability to set the thing to auto record shows you like even if their schedule changes. I've yet to see how this works, but even pretending it is as perfect as they say it is, I don't think it's really worth about $300 extra and hours of effort setting the thing up.
Comparison of Tivo vs. Foxtel iQ @ The Age.
Their conclusion is if you have Foxtel, getting Tivo is a waste of time, get iQ. If you don't, and don't want Foxtel, get Tivo if you want a good user experience, but it is all too little, too late.
That's not entirely true... I took advantage of cheap flights out of the country as thousands poured in for the Sydney Olympics. And it wasn't originally my idea!
Still, missing the hype was a bonus.
This year I've randomly watched some 'lympics on the TV. I've seen the Australia women's team beat China in a water polo heat, despite being robbed in the last minutes of a clear goal. I've seen Togo gain it's first ever Olympic medal, the kayaker snapping his paddle in joy at the end of the course. I've watched an unusual amount of beach volleyball. Strangely it seems to be on all the time.
None of which I had any intention of watching. They were just on.
I watched a little of the opening ceremony but gave up after little-miss-mime. I would love for London 2012 to not have the "traditional" opening ceremony of explosions and cost, and simply have the athletes walk out to their national anthem and giant versions of their flags on the big-screens. Perhaps, if they're scared people will get bored, give a short little bit of history on each country.
I am excited about one aspect of the China games. BMX! The preliminaries are tomorrow and the finals on Thursday. Full contact sprint racing over jumps and corners. Beats riding around in circles in tight jump-suits.
I can't find any info on if SBS or Channel 7 will be broadcasting any of the BMX. Quite probably not.
