November 23rd.
Axl/Guns'n'Roses fans can start freaking out now.
So can Dr. Pepper.
Pamphlet found at JB HiFi on Friday...
"To celebrate the 60th anniversary of vinyl, Universal Music Group are release 60 classic titles (across 3 batches) on much-loved 30cm black vinyl."All are exact replicas of the original packages and each album contains a voucher enabling you to download the MP3 versions of the songs within!"
Firstly, what the heck is wrong with "12 inch". I'm all for eradicating every last vestige of imperial measurement, but they're 12 inch vinyls. No-one has ever called them 30cm and no-one ever will.
Secondly, why are they happy to give you free MP3s on these releases and not CDs?
Why is it they're happy to do us this favor, but fought tooth and nail to prevent Australian copyright laws from changing to allow consumers to convert their CDs to MP3s, forcing them to buy their music twice to have a digital version?
What the hell did that mean, I thought? It's not even English.
So I looked up the website (www.foxdigitalcopy.com) and read the blurb.
Apparently Fox are releasing DVDs with a "bonus" disc with a pre-ripped Windows DRM version of the DVD you can copy to your computer and your portable device. It's filled with all sorts of extra Microsoft DRM to prevent you copying it, and you must enter a serial number (just like software!) to use it.
I leave it up to you to decide how lame that is.
One "bonus" I see is it saves half an hour or so for people who want to watch their DVD on their iPod.
Otherwise...
