New phone  #

After years of having to get MMS messages from the rubbish online interface my phone company provides because my cheapo phone didn't support them, I finally bought a phone with picture accepting technology.

Nokia 2630. As an added "bonus" it has a camera, which I admit, is really hard not to use constantly, and MP3 ringtones (Regurgitator Mish Mash era b-side "The Rock"). The interface is OK but I miss my simple oldschool text interface. It appears to use Java (the games are .jar files) and it is slow. Some tasks are very tedious (like deleting messages).

It's hardy, which is mostly what I wanted. I could confidently drop my old phone on the ground and trust it would be fine. This is thinner than any phone I've had, but still seems to be touch, although the screen is already marked.

I've also proved you can drop it in a foot of water and it will still work. It fell out of my top pocket while helping Katie take the grate off the drains in the driveway. I'm glad it had recently been raining, the water in those drains is usually revolting. Took it out of the water, it was still on and working fine while submerged, turned it off and took the battery out. Left it for two days to dry, all fine.

I suspect it will not last as long as it would have, but if it lasts a year I'll be happy.
