Melbourne Today - Early 50s photographs of Melbourne  #

The Australian Copyright Council indicates that "all photographs taken before 1955, whether published or not" are in the public domain.

Therefore, I feel confident I can post the following scans of a fantastic book/brochure I recently purchased for near nothing on eBay, "Melbourne Today: A selection of airviews 3'9 with map index".

Some of you may know that I collect "old" books on Melbourne containing photographs, preferably of street scapes or the sky-line.

While the early years (1880s) are fairly well covered in frequently published "Then and Now" type books, what tends to be forgotten are the years in between.

I particularly enjoy the 80s books I've managed to find ("Colourful Australia: Melbourne" is probably the best) with half build Rialto, South bank before the casino and hardly another skyscraper to be found. Unfortunately, despite the fact they're about as likely to be reprinted as my band's EP, I can't share them with you. Perhaps I'll post a few low-res examples up in the form of a review.

Meanwhile, enjoy the much loved out-of-copyright early 1950s.
