At first I thought I'd like one of the new iPod Touches, but I hate iTunes so much the thought of having to use it fills me with pain. There are ways around it, but I'd rather not have to hack my MP3 player just to make it work. Further, I like the idea of the Apps, and most are only really fun with the iPhone...
So I looked at getting another brand of player. I setting eventually on the Sony e454. It's nice and simple and does what I want (most importantly it mounts to the PC as a normal USB drive and you drag and drop). I do however hate Sony (for what they did to MiniDiscs) and it uses a proprietary USB cable, just like the iPhone/iPod, an almost unforgivable sin.
So where does that leave me? Ultimately I'd really just like to get an iPhone. It mixes web magic with an MP3 player with a phone all in one product, saving me lugging three things around.
But... see above.
So I thought, maybe another smart phone? The Samsung Galaxy S looks good, but vague complaints of "hanging/crashing" from the forumites puts me off it. I've heard the newest HTC phones are good, but I played with one in the store and it really wasn't much fun to use.
So, ignoring all of that, biting the bullet, forgiving the evils of iTunes... I can't get an iPhone anyway as my provider is constantly out of stock.
So I get nothing... or maybe I'll get the Sony... or nothing.
