I've been using the frankly unbeatable collectorz.com Music Collector (and I say that as someone who spent years writing his own CD database).
I intend to start work on Book Collector and Movie Collector once I'm finished with my CDs.
One of the ace things I can do with this database is export to XML, then use my XSLT skills to dump out all sorts of statistics. I hope to update my album statistics series once I'm done.
Meanwhile, here are some interesting stats on where I've been buying my music lately (from about May last year to Mid March). In this table I've ignored gifts and CDs that came on the front of magazines (even if bought them second hand):
Amazon (com + uk) | 33% |
JB HiFi | 42.5% |
At Gig | 1.5% |
Second-hand brick'n'mortar | 1.5% |
Second-hand eBay (US/UK/Aus) | 10.5% |
Second-hand market | 4% |
Record company website | 3% |
Digital iTunes | 4% |
... or ...
New CD online | 36% |
New CD in-person | 44% |
Second-hand online | 14.5% |
Second-hand in-person | 1.5% |
Digital | 4% |
