- Go to Google (or Bing, or whatever)
- Search for your band/song
- Song is returned at the top of the search results (before any "page" results):
- Artist / Album / Release date etc.
- Links to where you can buy it online (Amazon CD, iTunes, Amazon MP3 etc. etc.)
- A link to sample the album (streaming etc.), YouTube links, etc.
- If you cannot buy it explain why*
- Suggest other versions of the song, suggest best version of the song (best-of? re-release?)
* Reasons for not being able to buy it are:
- ... it has been deleted (ie. the artist or record company has decided you are not allowed to buy this song any more).
- ... it has not been released in your market-sector, give release date or reason why the decision was made not to release it to stinky foreigners.
- ... the artist or record company has decided this song cannot be released digitally, or, you can only buy the song by buying the whole album.
What happens now?
You get a million links to various direct download websites to (generally) pirated versions of the song.
Obviously a lot of my suggestions are a little over the top (the industry would never explain why they haven't releases a song overseas) but a simple acknowledgement from Google that it realises you've searched for a song and suggesting first where to buy it legally would be sensible.
It wouldn't take much for "the industry" to work with Google to make this happen, but neither side would want to do it for free, so it doesn't happen.
