R.E.M. break up  #

R.E.M. are almost as old as I am.

They broke up today [remhq].

I didn't really get into them until 2001's Reveal and spent the last decade slowing collecting all of their albums. This year I finally bought the last two to complete the collection.

I can't over state how huge an influence they were on my band. We've covered their songs. We used their songs as our language ("that song needs to be more What's the Frequency and less Orange Crush").

I never got to see them live.

They will be missed.

Faith No More to play King For A Day with Trey on guitar  #

Roddy tweeted:
FNM show in Santiago, Chile in Nov will be KFAD in it's entirety with the original lineup from that record. Trey Spruance on guitar!

Two firsts in one show.

Star A.D. live, and Trey playing live with the band.

When KFAD was written, Trey played guitar, but for various reasons he quit before the tour, with guitar being taken up by Roddy's keyboard tech, Dean Menta (now playing guitar on Sparks albums).

Trey has never played live with Faith No More.

A while back a rumour got out that FNM would play "The Real Thing" in its entirety. I never thought that could be true because one, they've done all of the songs on there live before so it isn't that exciting, and two, Patton doesn't sing The Real Thing songs as well now as he could as his voice has changed a bit. When Bill tweeted that it wasn't true, he specifically said "we won't be playing The Real Thing live" which left the other albums open. I knew there must be some truth to the rumour, but I didn't expect this double whammy.

The only thing more exciting than this would be a new album. Even then... this is probably more exciting as I have far less fear that they'll screw this up.
