Subscription music: Rabbit Rabbit Radio  #

I occasionally dementedly rant about how it would be great if you could subscribe to your favourite artists and just get music from them when they create it.

The artist gets lots of pre-sale money with which to record. The fan gets stuff!

Carla Kihlstedt and Matthias Bossi (both with one my favourite bands Sleepytime Gorilla Museum have launch just such an idea in Rabbit Rabbit Radio.

$1, taken from your PayPal account monthly, gets you a monthly song, video and variousness.

I have put my money where my mouth is and subscribed.

Meanwhile, Carla Kihlstedt is also Bandcamp and can be found on the brilliant new Book Of Knots album, "Garden of Fainting Stars".

She is prolific.

Hey, I just learnt she was a guest on Mr. Bungle's "California".

There ya go.

Mike Patton records vocals for Secret Chiefs 3 EP  #

Another year, another Mr. Bungle reunion rumour. Now that Faith No More have successfully reunited, and played with old Bungle guitarist Trey, the attention of the 90s obsessed twisted rock world has moved back to the idea Mr. Bungle might get back together.

I'll keep my opinion of the likelyhood of any such reunion to myself... but one thing I've said I'd like to see more of is the members of Mr. Bungle working together more. The occasional jam with Patton with Dunn and guest vocal on Bar's Umlaut CD are great and all but...

A friend suggested Patton singing on a Secret Chiefs 3 track, which I personally though pretty much impossible, until I saw Trey play King For A Day with Faith No More.

Well, now it has happened:

WOM042 - La Chanson de Jacky / The Western Exile

Queen's Greatest...  #

50 Greatest Queen Songs [Classic Rock #98, October 2006], as chosen by "rock's biggest names".

I've been slaving over the idea of a Queen's Greatest Hits 1.5 CD. That is... a CD of the best Queen songs missed by Queens Greatest Hits 1 and 2 (ignoring 3).

It is intensely difficult.

I've looked at "Queen Rocks". I've looked at the few variations of Queen's Greatest Hits and more recently I've looked at the three "Deep Cuts" compilations.

I've put together the Deep Cuts CDs from my own albums and will listen to them. I've already listened right through all tracks not on the Greatest Hits and tried to write down songs that stuck out. A lot stuck out.

There are a lot of variations of the article above online. Fans have tried to make their own "don't forget me!" compilations of the lesser known songs. They're all interesting to read. But they don't help me pick.

Out of interest, in the article above, here are the tracks that are not found on any of the Greatest Hits albums or on the three Deep Cuts albums:

  • Brighton Rock [Sheet Heart Attack]
  • Death On Two Legs [A Night At The Opera]
  • Tie Your Mother Down [A Day At The Races]
  • Father To Son [Queen II]
  • All Dead All Dead [News Of The World]
  • Liar [Queen]
  • Sweet Lady [A Night At The Opera]
  • Get Down Make Love [News Of The World]
  • These Are The Days Of Our Lives [Innuendo]
  • Love Of My Life [A Night At The Opera]

There is a lot of love out there for Sheer Heart Attack and News Of The World. Personally I love Sheet Heart Attack, but never much got into News Of The World. I've started to enjoy it lately...

Much more Queen listening to go...
