"Newsday" 17 Sep 1990 (John Leland) - "His worst break, though, was landing Faith No More as his support act. Charismatic without working at it, powerful, enigmatic, and reasonably unaffected, they made Idol seem bottled. If Faith No More isn't yet a great band, it is at least a real interesting one with a great singer. Dressed in psychedelic pajamas, Mike Patton stalked the stage, blowing through the band's denser arrangements, and carrying the lighter ones. His rapping, which seems a bit smart-alecky on record, boomed like the chant of a generation. It was our story he was telling.

Like any good modern group, Faith No More switched gears effortlessly, being weird and arty one minute, bufoonish the next. Its members turned the Nestles jingle into an ominous lament, and left the crowd to chew on a straight cover version of the Commodores' song, "Easy.""
